Bonding/White Fillings
Oh! No! Look at this broken tooth! What a terrible accident! These types of fractures can usually be repaired using bonding technology and tooth colored composite resin and can look invisible to the eye!
Bonding involves using a resin that is mecanically and chemically attached to your tooth. Bonding technique is now used to attach tooth colored composite resin or porcelain to teeth. Composite resin can be used to restore front teeth as shown here, or it can be used as an alternative to amalgams in back teeth. Bonded composite an excellent cosmetic option for those patients who do not want the look of silver in their mouths. Bondings can be used on teeth that are decayed, cracked, or stained.
Procedure The bonding procedure is usually completed in one visit. The first step in the process is to remove the decayed, rough, or unsightly portion of the tooth. Next, the tooth is etched with a liquid or gel ; a bonding agent is applied. The composite resin chosen to match the tooth is placed in or on the prepared tooth and cured with a blue light. The hardened resin is then trimmed and polished, leaving you with a beautifully sculpted, natural-looking restoration.
Bonding Durability Although composite resins are cosmetically pleasing and relatively easily placed, their durability typically is from 4-7 years before they begin to chip and wear away. When this happens, the restoration will need to be replaced. Other types of restorations may provide greater longevity.
