Dental implants are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or teeth lost due to extraction. Dental implants are preferred because no additional teeth need to be altered in order to place the new tooth or teeth.
Step One:Implant Placement
The first step of the implant procedure is the surgical placement of the actual implant. After careful examination and planning the correct implant is chosen for the site or sites. Using regular dental anesthetic, the implant is surgically placed in the jawbone. A graft of artificial bone and/or sutures may be used to finish the procedure. There is usually not significant discomfort with this procedure.
This implant will allowed to heal for a period of 3-6 months.
Step Two:Impression and Fabrication of the Crown
The restoration process begins when healing is complete. An impression is made of the implant and a final restoration is crafted by our professional dental laboratory technicians. The restoration will consist of an abutment which is attached to the implant with a screw and a beautiful porcelain crown that fits overtop.
Other Uses for Implants
In addition to the replacement of lost teeth and to support a conventional crown, implants can be used to support bridges. Special attachments can be connected to implants that allow them to support partial or full dentures. In fact, the current dental literature recommends the placement of a minimum of 2 implants to support a lower denture.
