White Fillings
White Fillings, technically called bonded composite fillings have become the standard restoration used in dentistry today. The bonding technique makes use of the resins which adhere to specially conditionned tooth structure. Bonded composite fillings are an excellent option as an alternative to the dark grey look of silver fillings. In addition to their primary role as replacements for tooth structure destroyed by decay, white fillings can be used to repair chips and fractures in front teeth, closes spaces between teeth, alter the shape of malformed teeth and disguise cracks and stained tooth areas.
Veneers
Veneers are thin layers of dental porcelain that are bonded to front teeth.
Initially thought of as a cosmetic procedure to change the appearance of
teeth, veneers are now the restoration of choice when treating front teeth
due to their conservative design. Veneers provide a life-like appearance
to teeth and can be used to dramatically change color,
shape and alignment.
Crowns
Crowns are restorations that fit over prepared teeth much like a thimble fits over your finger. Crowns can be made of many materials, but the most common types for long term use are gold, porcelain fused to gold and all-porcelain. Due to the current economic conditions and the price of gold, it is used only in rare circumstances when management of wear and function are of extreme importance. All porcelain crowns, including all of the newer ceramics are beautiful and natural looking, but may have shortened life times.
Porcelain fused to gold is the restoration of choice for esthetics and longevity for posterior teeth and where bridges are required.
Bridges
Bridges are restorations that are made to replace missing teeth. A bridge requires abutment teeth that are prepared like crowns and are the supports the pontics or teeth that fill the missing space. Since the advents of dental implants use of bridges has declined, due to difficulty in maintenance and complexity of design.
